Launch of the “Cercle Franco-Tanzanien”

The “Cercle Franco-Tanzanien” was successfully launched on February 20th, 2015 by the French Ambassador, H.E. Madam Malika Berak. The “Cercle” is a friendship group based in Dar es Salam, the objective of which is to further strengthen existing ties between French and Tanzanians.

The Ambassador of Tanzania in France, H.E. Madam Begum Taj, participated in this event and announced her desire to create a similar initiative in France to better promote Tanzania.

This event was held at the Embassy of France in Tanzania featuring :

  • a debate on the French language and its place in Africa, especially in Tanzania, with the testimony of an invited guest, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the International Organization of Francophonie to the African Union, Madam Cécile Léqué-Folchini and Tanzanian personalities Francophones and Francophiles.
  • a reception held at the Residence of France in the presence of H.E. Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim, former Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mrs Begum Taj Ambassador of Tanzania in France and a good number of dignitaries who attended the event supporting the initiative of the Embassy. Madam Malika Berak announced the official creation of the “Cercle Franco-Tanzanien”and emphasized the shared desire to further strengthen the ties between the two countries.
  • A concert to sum up the launch event with an outstanding musical performance by French singer Sophie Delmas and the pianist Franck Montbaylet who performed various renditions of famous French songs.

The “Cercle Franco-Tanzanien” will hold three sessions every year and in consultation with its founding members - Tanzanian and French will schedule events throughout the year.
